Renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen has once again been admitted to the hospital due to breathing difficulties, marking the latest episode in her ongoing battle with health issues. Earlier this year, she was hospitalized but returned home after receiving treatment. A similar cycle repeated a few weeks ago.
Three days ago, the veteran singer was taken to a private hospital in Dhaka after experiencing severe respiratory problems. Initially placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), she was moved to a general cabin on Sunday as her condition stabilized.
Speaking to the media on Monday morning, her husband, noted instrumentalist Gazi Abdul Hakim, confirmed the update. “She’s doing a little better now, so the doctors have shifted her to a cabin,” he said.
However, he expressed concern about her overall health. “Things are not looking too good. This is the third time in recent months that she has needed ICU care. She’s dealing with serious complications related to her lungs and kidneys. Her body is extremely weak. She can’t stand up or walk anymore. We ask everyone to pray for her,” he added.
Farida Parveen began her career in 1968 as a listed Nazrul singer with Rajshahi Betar (radio). She rose to national fame in the early 1970s through patriotic songs. Later, she trained in Lalon Sangeet under the guidance of spiritual singer Moksed Ali Shah.
Over the years, Farida Parveen has earned numerous accolades. In 1987, she was awarded the Ekushey Padak for her contribution to music. In 2008, she received the prestigious Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize from the Japanese government. She also won the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer in 1993.
Committed to nurturing the next generation, she founded a music school named Achin Pakhi School to teach Lalon Sangeet to children.
