Johnny Depp is stepping back into the creative spotlight with Hyde, a graphic novel developed in partnership with acclaimed director Ridley Scott and the production company Mechanical Cake.
The project, co-owned by Depp, Scott, and Mechanical Cake, reimagines the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde tale with a grim twist. In this two-part series, Mr. Hyde has overpowered Dr. Jekyll and now lurks in London’s underground, where he performs grotesque experiments on victims to clone himself.
Depp is the mind behind the central character and is set to play an active creative role throughout the development of the series. The graphic novel is penned by Jesse Negron and Joe Matsumoto, with striking illustrations by Gary Erskine and Chris Weston. The first volume is scheduled for release this Halloween.
Describing the experience, Depp called the opportunity “insane and beautiful.”
Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate about Depp’s possible return as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
